Cervical Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection
This procedure is performed by placing numbing medication and anti-inflammatory steroid medication around the site of an inflamed nerve in the neck.
The purpose of the procedure is typically for the alleviation of pain in the arm and/or shoulder from a pinched nerve in the neck.
These nerves are usually approached with the patient lying on their back and the injection is done from the front/side of the neck targeting the likely or potential source of the nerve pain.
There are special considerations for this procedure your provider will discuss with you before if you are considered a candidate for this treatment. This procedure is performed with x-ray guidance.
If the patient has temporary improvement in pain immediately after the procedure from the numbing medication it can confirm the pain is coming from the nerve that was targeted.
