Sacroiliac Joint Radiofrequency Ablation
If you only receive short term improvement with sacroiliac injection then you may consider radiofrequency treatment.
This involves the placement of multiple radiofrequency needles within the joint space or adjacent to the nerves that supply the joint.
The goal is to temporarily disable the pain nerves supplying the joint. This typically lasts for more than 6 months when effective.
This procedure can only be performed when diagnostic injections are utilized to confirm that numbing the intended target nerves results in temporary pain relief on 2 separate occasions prior to the performance of the radiofrequency procedure.
These procedures are performed with x-ray guidance.
