Interlaminar (Midline) Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection
This procedure is performed to calm irritated nerves in the low back causing leg pain or reduce symptoms from spinal stenosis.
You will be asked to lie face down and an injection is performed under x-ray guidance. We will inject a combination of numbing medication and anti-inflammatory steroid medication in the space where the irritated nerves are.
This can reduce symptoms for variable periods of time but can be repeated in the future when it has been effective before.
This injection is different than the transforaminal approach because it spread medication into the spinal canal a coats the irritated nerves from the middle of the spine.
This approach is often avoided when there has been surgery in the area of the intended injection.
